Interns to Provide Free Therapy!

/

I am very happy to once again be having 2 interns from the UW-Whitewater Master’s of Counseling Education program joining me for the upcoming school year. While I enjoy the opportunity to help new therapists learn and grow, the important news for you is that you now have the opportunity to receive FREE therapy from talented therapists! As is always the case at Awen Therapy, they are sex-positive, LGBTQIA-friendly, kink-friendly, and non-monogamy-friendly. In other words, they are very friendly! They will start seeing clients September 7 and conclude their internships in May of 2017. I encourage you to give them a call now!

I’ll let them introduce themselves –

MICHAEL RADLOFF

Radloff_Internship PhotoHello all! I am grateful for the opportunity to complete my counseling internship with Awen Therapy and to be able to some great work with individuals and partners. I am currently in the process of completing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Wisconsin -Whitewater with an emphasis in marriage and family counseling.

As a counselor in training, I have experiences working with diverse clients from the community who wished to explore a variety of counseling issues. I have particular interests working with individuals/partnerships who are experiencing changes, stresses, loss/grief, anxiety, depression, relationship-related issues, and/or other complex life/partnership issues. Finally, I also hold a certification as a PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator, a counseling intervention that works to improve communication and conflict resolution skills for partners.

It is my mission as a counselor to provide a quality safe space for clients to be open and become deeply engaged with the counseling process. I aim to be a sex and kink-positive, LGBTQIA+-friendly, and multicultural competent counselor in order to truly understand my clients’ experiences. From my perspective, the counseling relationship and trust between a client and counselor is extremely important for counseling to be successful. Overall, I take a person-centered approach to counseling and often integrate techniques that target an individual’s thoughts and behaviors regarding their issues. As counselor and client, we can work together to make the counseling process meaningful for you.

I am looking forward to working with you! Feel free to contact me via e-mail at radloffcounseling@gmail.com or by calling (608) 509-4997 to schedule an appointment.

SHANLEIGH BECHARD

Shanleigh croppedMy name is Shanleigh and I am excited to begin my internship work at Awen Therapy! A Wisconsin native, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies, along with a certificate in Women’s Studies. I am currently completing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater.

I describe my therapeutic orientation as collaborative and client-centered. I see my role as guiding and supporting my clients in navigating difficult circumstances and the emotional burdens that accompany them. My clients are the experts in themselves; my goal is to learn and work with my clients, helping to reach goals and create desired change. I hope to empower my clients, helping them to gain the confidence, skills, and resources they need to independently heal, cope, and grow.

While systemic in nature, I find myself borrowing from many different therapeutic approaches, depending on my client and their needs. These therapies include cognitive-behavioral, emotion-focused, solutions-focused, narrative, feminist, structural family, art, experiential, and play therapy.

I strive to build an open, safe, and accepting client-therapist relationship where clients feel comfortable exploring themselves and the issues influencing their lives. I am interested in working with a diverse population of individuals, couples, groups, and families on a variety of issues, including but not limited to relationship issues, anxiety, depression, life transitions, chronic illness, women’s issues, sexual health, eating disorders, and racial and minority issues. With a degree and background in working with young children, I am interested in working with children and their families. I am also a certified facilitator of the PREPARE/ENRICH program, a research-based skill-building program used in couples counseling and pre-marital therapy. To find out more about PREPARE/ENRICH, check out www.prepare-enrich.com.

I am looking forward to working with you! To schedule an appointment, please contact me at shanleigh.therapy@gmail.com or (608) 579-2005.
